Until four months ago, part of the younger generation was having fun on TikTok. Not only young users, men and women of all ages have enjoyed this short video making app. However, this familiar equation has changed since last June. The popular entertainment app has been banned first in India and later in the world's largest markets like the United States. We have already heard rumours that this application may be banned in several other countries including Australia in the coming days.
This time TikTok played another big push. In fact, this
time, the Chinese application is going to be banned in India's neighbouring
country Pakistan. Yesterday, Friday, three top Pakistani government
officials said that the Pakistani government had decided to block the
country. An official announcement will be made in the next few hours.
As a reason for this extreme decision, a top official said, TikTok
has been repeatedly asked to take effective measures to prevent the presence of
immoral and obscene content. Even in July, Pakistan's telecommunications
regulator warned TikTok for multiple video content published on the
platform. But this Chinese-based platform has not been able to satisfy the
Pakistani authorities. As a result, TikTok will have to withdraw from
Pakistan this time as well.
Another Pakistani official said that their Prime Minister Imran Khan was deeply interested in the issue. He issued the directive to block the promotion of pornography in the conservative Islamic republic. So far, neither TikTok nor its parent company, ByteDance, has commented on the matter.
