The incident began when India's popular wallet app Paytm was
removed from the Google Play Store. After some time, the e-merchant
application has been available in the Play Store again, but Google has imposed
a bunch of restrictions on the app.
So far so good. But yesterday, Google put pressure on
online food delivery applications Zomato and Swiggy in exactly the same
way. The Android system maker has sent a notice to the two online
restaurants regarding the new Google Play policy, stating that Zomato and
Swiggy are violating the Google Play Guidelines. In this regard, Zomato
officials said that such allegations by Google are completely unethical and
baseless. Paytm also made the same complaint earlier. The companies
claim they have not violated any rules, they are being put under undue
pressure.
But this is not the end. Recently, a new billing system
has been launched in the Google Play Store. Google has announced that
applications will have to pay a 30% fee to be available on its Play Store
platform.
Seeing all these incidents, the local app developers or
entrepreneurial companies have become restless. According to them, it is
not easy to accept that a foreign company will levy 30% tax without any
reason. In addition, Google will put undue pressure on various applications
in the name of restrictions - it can not continue. As a result, they are
feeling the need for a native app store.
Vijay Shekhar Sharma, co-founder and CEO of Paytm, is
encouraging the thinking of these companies. Together, they are looking
for local alternatives to the Google Play Store or are considering building an
independent app store to support local apps. But, replacing the Google
Play Store is not so easy. Companies like Google or Apple have their own
strong enterprise ecosystem. Even Google's service network is spread all
over the world. As a result, there is a need for advanced technology to
create the equivalent of Google's App Store, as well as the possibility of
spending huge sums. But once such a native app store is created, the app
business will improve a lot - local app developers are quite optimistic about
this.
Experts are considering using the app store of a Noida-based
company called Indus OS. This app store handles Indian applications, and
supports multiple local languages. So, it can be considered as a good
alternative to Google Play Store.

In addition, the Economic Times reported that the Modi
government is considering launching its own app store. Which will be an
alternative to Google Play Store and Apple App Store. It is developing
C-DAC.
Incidentally, big smartphone brands like Xiaomi, Samsung or Vivo already have their own App Store on their devices. There are lots of apps available, and updates to the apps are available from time to time. However, these app stores cannot be used on any other device.
